Cotton candy, another one of my guilty pleasures. Isn’t it just fun to eat? It’s like eating a stuffed animal lol… all soft, fluffy, and sweet. Well, as a person who is basically intolerant to sugar, cotton candy was basically off limits. UNTIL NOW that is!! I’m so excited to share this nifty little cotton candy maker. It’s so easy to use and it let’s me have one of my favorite treats without the sugar highs and lows.
We love the endless flavor combinations you can create. Mix lemon with strawberry, orange with cherry. The sky is literally the limit. We decided to use this kind of candy. Mostly any kind of sugar free hard candy will work. Just make sure it’s nothing with milk or caramel. Mostly the fruit flavored hard candies will work just fine. *Important tip* Make sure to turn off the cotton candy maker before you add the candy. The little tray in the center spins fast, and it’s hot! Be sure to keep little fingers away.
Once the candy maker heats up you’ll notice webs of candy start to built around the outer rim. Using a slow circular motion, use the wand to gather the web. I use a turning motion almost like I’m spinning the wand around in my hand, not around the rim. This part happens really fast. Make sure to use a pretty consistent motion to keep the cotton candy nice and fluffy. There’s a learning curve here, but once you’ve got it, you’ve got it.
One other tip is to make sure to keep the candy rim as clean as possible. The hardened sugar deposits gather around the rim of the cotton candy maker pretty fast. Pause every few batches to wipe down the rim. This allows new strands to flow freely onto the wand without any obstructions. You can see mine needs wiping down here, and the tip is gathering into a string.
Having an assistant also helps. The sugar free cotton free candy maker can vibrate once you put the candy in, and that can make the unit rattle a bit. A second person can definitely help make the job a little easier. Also, don’t overload the cotton candy maker. Just a few pieces at a time should be fine.
These Plastic Popcorn Containers are perfect for serving up this tasty treat. What’s not to love about homemade sugar free cotton candy. All the fun, none of the sugar. Use any of your favorite hard candies to mix it up and make it fun. We like sugar free Lifesavers, sugar free jolly ranchers, sugar free lemon candies and all kinds of fruit flavors. My kids can’t get enough of these. Totally easy, and lots of fun memories.
